Can a Rental Agreement Be Changed After Registration?

A registered agreement may need updating when the parties agree to change important terms or when an occupant is added, removed or substituted.

Do not alter a signed contract informally or rely only on a verbal agreement.

Record the change through a signed addendum, replacement agreement or prescribed form appropriate to the situation.

Check whether the Housing Authority registration must be amended and which supporting documents are required.

Changing the registration record does not automatically resolve contractual rights, arrears, deposits or liability between outgoing and remaining tenants.

Every affected party should receive a copy of the signed change and updated registration confirmation.
